I am very sad today. Some of you may remember when I wrote about our recent trip to Belize (here and here). Last night, about 10:00 p.m., we received a phone call telling us that Ramon’s Village, the resort we stayed at in Belize, which is owned by people we know from the town we live in here in Mississippi, was on fire and appeared to be burning to the ground.
It was one of those moments when I immediately felt my stomach in my chest. The resort itself is beautiful, but I was picturing all the people who work there that we had become so familiar with during our stay, who made our vacation such a joy. Ramon himself, Chief, Jack, all of them. I can’t imagine what a blow this must be to them and to the owners.
Not surprisingly, I hear that the community response was overwhelming. Photos on the San Pedro Sun’s Facebook page tell the story.
San Pedro is a strong community and Ramon’s has been a pillar of that community for a long time. I hope that Ramon’s will rebuild. I’ll keep you posted on any support efforts and stories as I come across them. For now, please just join me in supporting everyone associated with Ramon’s with love and prayers.
